Accessibility Statement
The statement covers this website (https://theideasfund.org).
The purpose of the website is to provide information and news and encourage partnership. It is run by British Science Association, who are committed to making this site as accessible as possible for persons with visual, hearing, cognitive and motor impairments.
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand. My Computer My Way has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
We are doing the following to improve the accessibility of this site, and the other websites and platforms we run:
- We have conducted a review to evaluate the current state of this site.
- We have had accessibility training to better understand existing accessibility issues that are currently present.
How accessible the website is
Although we constantly test our online platform to the WCAG 2.1 guidelines to ensure it works on both desktop and mobile devices, currently there are some barriers that may prevent disabled users access to the website.
The known issues are:
- There are decorative images that are incorporated into the links but do not adequately describe their purpose
- There is no audio description for the visual-only information at the end of the video or alternative for videos
- There are UI components that do not have sufficient colour contrast against the background
- There is no keyboard focus to the navigation and pagination links in the "From Twitter" slideshow section
- There are duplicate IDs present
- There are some items that visually appear as lists but are not programmatically defined as such
- The content inside of the expanded accordions in the FAQs page is not available to assistive technology
- There is no visible keyboard focus for any of the accordion titles on the FAQs page

Compliance status
This evaluation constitutes an accessibility audit of the The Ideas Fund website based on 2 pages targeted for evaluation. These pages were selected by ADWebKey as representative of the overall accessibility and functionality of the website. The evaluation has been evaluated in accordance with the WCAG Evaluation Methodology (WCAG-EM), which can be viewed at http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG-EM/.
The sample does include completed processes or journeys. Once the sample of pages is agreed on, we proceed with “triage”, this is a process where a lead tester views each page in the sample at a high level to determine what accessibility issues are repeated on several pages, such as a reoccurring accessibility issue in the footer of the website. During “triage”, the lead tester will also harvest all colour combinations from the sample pages which do not meet WCAG standard. Following “triage” pages are manually audited and individually tested against each of the 78 WCAG 2.1 Success Criteria. Every page is then independently cross-checked and finally, a QA review of the findings is completed in order to ensure that the results and comments presented are valid and comprehensive.
